Zenzula/ 7 Notes (Mini)

WHY CHOOSE THE MINI?

The Mini is the most approachable member of the Zenzula family. Its seven-note pentatonic tuning makes creating beautiful music feel effortless, whether you're a complete beginner, a curious child, or an experienced musician looking for a portable companion.

Smaller and lighter than the other models, it travels easily and fits comfortably in almost any pair of hands. Its bright, sweet voice encourages spontaneity, creativity, and play, making it an ideal introduction to the world of music.

For many people, the Mini becomes their first experience of making music, and a companion that stays with them for years.

Zenzula Regular

WHY CHOOSE THE REGULAR?

The Regular builds upon the simplicity of the Mini while offering a deeper, fuller, and more resonant voice. Its nine-note tuning creates a richer soundscape, inviting a slower and more expressive style of playing.

Many players are drawn to the way its notes linger and unfold, creating layers of sound that continue to reveal themselves long after they have been played. The result is an instrument that feels absorbing, rewarding, and endlessly enjoyable to return to.

For those who enjoy taking their time with sound.

Zenzula/ 11 Notes (Melody)

WHY CHOOSE THE MELODY?

With eleven carefully tuned notes arranged in a full scale, the Melody opens the door to a wider world of musical expression. While retaining the accessibility that defines every Zenzula, it offers the additional notes needed to play recognisable tunes, explore richer melodies, and develop more complex musical ideas.

Whether you're learning favourite songs, creating your own melodies, or simply enjoying the freedom of a larger musical palette, the Melody provides room to grow while remaining wonderfully intuitive to play.

For those who hear music not only as sound, but as song.

Kazula Collection

KaZula/ 15 Notes (Double Step)

WHY CHOOSE THE KAZULA

The Kazula offers a different way of thinking about music. Inspired by the two-tier note arrangement found on traditional African Mbiras, its fifteen notes are spread across two levels, placing a wider range of musical possibilities beneath the thumbs.

This distinctive layout allows melodies, harmonies, and rhythmic patterns to interact in ways that feel both intuitive and endlessly rewarding. A simple phrase can quickly evolve into something richer, encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and personal discovery.

While approachable enough for beginners, the Kazula possesses a depth that continues to reveal itself over time. The more you play, the more connections begin to emerge between notes, patterns, and ideas.

For those who believe that the most rewarding journeys are the ones without a map.

Kalimba Collection

Kalimba

WHY CHOOSE THE KALIMBA?

The Kalimba offers a direct connection to one of the world's most enduring musical traditions. Inspired by the instruments that evolved from the ancient African Mbira, it carries a voice that is delicate, expressive, and rich with shimmering overtones.

Its two-level note arrangement creates a distinctive playing experience, allowing notes to interact in ways that feel both elegant and deeply musical. Whether played slowly in quiet reflection or woven into more intricate musical patterns, the Kalimba possesses a timeless quality that has captivated players for generations.

Many musicians are drawn to its clarity and sparkle, while others simply appreciate the sense of history carried within its sound. Every note feels connected to a tradition that stretches back centuries, reminding us that some of the most beautiful musical ideas are also the oldest.

For those who wish to experience the voice that inspired the journey.

Kalimba Collection

Cigar Box Kalimba

WHY CHOOSE THE CIGAR BOX KALIMBA?

The Cigar Box Kalimba brings together two traditions of instrument making: the timeless appeal of the African thumb piano and the rich acoustic character of handcrafted wooden resonators.

Its selected Red Cedar soundboard responds beautifully to even the gentlest touch, producing a voice that is warm, open, and remarkably expressive. Compared to the brighter, more metallic character of traditional Zenzulas, the Cigar Box Kalimba offers a fuller and more organic sound, rich with natural resonance and depth.

Many players are drawn to its distinctive appearance, but it is the instrument's voice that leaves a lasting impression. Every note seems to bloom and linger, inviting slower playing and deeper listening.

Part instrument, part conversation piece, and entirely unique, the Cigar Box Kalimba appeals to those who appreciate craftsmanship as much as sound.

For those who believe that character matters as much as tone.

Tongo Collection

Tongo Mini

WHY CHOOSE THE TONGO?

The Tongo is unlike any other instrument in the Zenzula collection. While the Mini, Regular, Melody, and Kazula invite melody, the Tongo begins with rhythm.

Its voice is earthy, percussive, and full of movement, encouraging players to think less about individual notes and more about pulse, groove, and flow. Patterns emerge naturally beneath the thumbs, making it as enjoyable for complete beginners as it is rewarding for experienced musicians.

There is something instinctive about the way the Tongo responds. A simple rhythm quickly becomes a conversation, drawing players into a world of repetition, variation, and discovery. Whether played alone or alongside other instruments, it has a remarkable ability to bring energy, movement, and connection into a space.

For those who feel rhythm before they hear melody.

Tongo Collection

Tongo Medium

WHY CHOOSE THE TONGO?

The Tongo Medium builds upon the lively character of the Mini with a fuller, deeper, and more resonant voice. Its larger resonating body gives each note greater warmth, depth, and sustain, allowing rhythmic patterns to breathe with a richer, more immersive character.

Still wonderfully responsive and intuitive to play, it rewards both relaxed improvisation and steady grooves. The signature African-style buzzers add a distinctive texture to every note, giving the instrument its earthy, unmistakable character.

For players who enjoy rhythm with a little more depth and presence.

Tongo Collection

Bass Tongo

WHY CHOOSE THE TONGO?

The Bass Tongo is the deepest voice in the Tongo family. Its larger resonating body and specially crafted thicker tines produce warm, powerful bass tones that create an unmistakable rhythmic foundation.

Held naturally through its distinctive side sound ports, the Bass Tongo invites a wonderfully tactile style of playing that feels less like a thumb piano and more like a percussion instrument that sings. The characteristic African-style buzzers add texture and movement, giving every rhythm an organic, traditional flavour.

Whether played on its own or anchoring a group of instruments, the Bass Tongo transforms simple patterns into rich, driving grooves.

For those who believe rhythm is the heartbeat of music.

Because no two pieces of wood are identical and no two instruments are produced on an assembly line. Variations in grain, colour, artwork, and character are part of what makes each Zenzula unique.

Most Zenzulas are crafted from Teakwood, selected for its durability and warm acoustic character. A Zenzula makes a thoughtful gift for people of all ages because no musical experience is required to enjoy it. It combines art, music, craftsmanship, and personal expression in a way that few gifts can. Whether given to a child discovering music for the first time, a musician exploring new sounds, or someone who simply appreciates beautiful handmade objects, a Zenzula often becomes something that is kept and cherished for years.

The name Zenzula was inspired by the calming, reflective quality of the instrument’s sound. Over the years, many players have described the experience of playing a Zenzula as peaceful, grounding, and almost meditative. The name grew naturally from that feeling.
